Influencer marketing is not new to the ear but like many things that start out in vogue, it is still fairly new to many. Digital is being embraced and so is the transformation that comes with it. But with all things that are new, there comes a currency that enables one to achieve those heights of power. Digital transformation is the new world order. And with influencer marketing as a novel idea, many still play around it for fun. But like a child that does not know the power of diamond when he sees it, he just might throw it around for fun like he does all other stones.
Let us look at it this way. If you went to a shop to buy a can of glue and you just randomly decided to purchase it because of what was written on the can and moved to the counter to pay, and then suddenly someone came in to join the queue and then spotted the can in your basket and went like. Wow! I just used this same can of glue and I was blown away by the results, it did an excellent job compared to other cans of glue I use this really surprised me. I did not expect it to be that effective. Especially because I am a carpenter and have used different variations of glue for my work so believe me when I say this is the bomb!
At that point what happens? You feel like you’ve hit a jackpot!. You now have some assurance and the person just gave you VALIDATION on that can of glue even before you use it. Let us face it. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. It is an effortless way of marketing. And has been since the beginning of time. Back in the day word of mouth showed the real virtue of a person when used to describe how the person lived or acted in particular circumstances. Even better when it came randomly. It is such a powerful tool because we will all agree that in a board meeting at work the key to being successful is being mentioned in a board room as the right person to take up a role, or being eyed for future promotions. And this can only happen if you have a sponsor or mentor or supervisor that can carry your good works up the ladder. So if that is being done with us why can’t products made carry the same forte?
Funny thing is it already does. Influencer marketing did not just start abruptly. In fact with the rise of digital. Many people subconsciously became spokespersons for brands without being paid just because they wanted to be thought leaders in a particular industry and have relevance. It is reverse psychology. After a while brands realized how it positively affected sales when people spoke about their products, showing how to use products and giving varying outcomes. Does this ring a bell to you? If you said market research then you are right! So you see, all these have just recently been realized by brands. And they are leveraging it. What better way to boost sales than letting the customer speak to another customer about it?
The power of influencer marketing is unmatched. And will breed billions of dollars if individuals took advantage of this. Billionaire status? Very possible. Want an example? Christiano Ronaldo.

Even as a footballer, he has a few hours of media obligations and this enables brands with the money to book him. Of course, none of this would be possible if Christiano Ronaldo had a less than an impressive career. So this should tell you that it is not only about the numbers.
