From now until September 2020, Google is giving businesses the opportunity to promote themselves for free on Google Maps. Google Ads is rolling out promoted pins to smart campaign advertisers and making them completely free to use for a few months. Through September 2020, smart campaign advertisers with a Google My Business listing will not be charged for clicks, calls, or sales generated from promoted pins.
Now what are these promoted pins anyway and why should you care?
If you’re a Google Maps user, and you probably are, you’re likely already intimately familiar with the ordinary red “pins.” These indicate nearby landmarks, businesses or other places of interest. However Promoted pins will provide a handy contrast, as they now come in royal purple — allowing your business to very visibly stand out from the rest of the locations in your area. What has some red pin or purple pin got to do with anything you say?
When you perform a search for, example restaurants, you might see promoted pins from example Soho or KFC and other local restaurants populating your searches. These will also be accompanied by promotions and coupons tailored precisely to your search history. Maybe it’ll be a $5 off coupon for that meal package, or, in a different search, $20 off your Gear from that photography accessories shop.
And in order for your business to pop up first, you must pay for that. But now Google is giving those promotion pins away for free through September. How cool is that? Promoted pins help businesses stand out in Maps by highlighting specific services and unique offerings such as pickup, delivery, curbside pickup, and more. Google is offering these promoted pins for free in an effort to assist small businesses that are now in the process of reopening after lockdown.
It only makes sense that as businesses are struggling to come back on their feet, they might not have enough to spend on marketing. So this is Google’s way of helping. Thank you, Google!
It is interesting to note that Google has already started rolling out promoted pins to smart campaign advertisers with a Google My Business profile, and they will be fully available in the coming weeks. What are smart campaigns?
Smart Campaigns are the default campaign type for new advertisers in Google Ads. The campaigns are almost entirely automated, from ad creatives to delivery optimization, based on the product or service being advertised and the goal the advertiser sets. So clearly you do not need to be a pro to take advantage of this opportunity. Does your business have a Google my business profile? No? Better hurry.
Other New Features for Smart Campaigns
Aside promoted pins, Google Ads is enhancing smart campaigns where users have the ability to sign up from any device, see results directly in Google Search, and control when ads are shown. Google Ads advertisers can now sign up for smart campaigns and run ads directly from the Google Ads mobile app. Google has made the sign-up process faster and easier, saying advertisers can now get their smart campaigns up and running in as little as 15 minutes. This update of free ads is available in the Google Ads app for iOS and Android.
Google wants to monitor Smart campaign performances in google search hence making its reporting features more accessible by allowing advertisers to view their performance directly in search results.
To use this feature, simply search for “My Ads” or “Google Ads” while signed in to the Google account you use for Google Ads. Keyword themes will also be fully available to everyone using Smart campaigns in the coming weeks. Spread the good news! Share the fun!
