Instagram announced on Tuesday their beta version of a fundraising tool allowing users a way to raise money right from the app. The idea influenced by the success of GoFundMe. Check out their blog post-release “Introducing a New Way to Fundraise for personal causes”.
It will specifically focus on raising money for a personal cause, like yourself, your small business, a friend or a cause that’s important to you.
The feature will be implemented first with a small check of users in the US, UK and Ireland on Android, followed by iOS.
There’s a review process to check the eligibility of donation causes. Donation causes are vetted before being approved and before you can start raising money.
You must be at least 18 years old to create a fundraiser. The fundraising campaign can last for 30 days with the option to extend for another 30 days.
People donating to your fundraiser can choose to remain anonymous or display their identity. I mean, it is a mirror of a lot of fund-raising and crowdfunding platforms but it is a step in the right direction.
Facebook and its platforms are not new to supporting fundraisers. Since January more than $US 100 million has been raised for COVID-19 fundraisers globally across Instagram and Facebook.
